Born with the name Paul Gayet-Tancrède, he excelled as a writer, graphic designer, illustrator, filmmaker, and photographer. His adopted pseudonym, "Samivel," was inspired by Charles Dickens' character, Sam Weller, from "The Adventures of Mr. Pickwick."
Samivel embarked on his illustrious career as an illustrator in 1928. He forged partnerships with mountaineering magazines and authors, drawing upon his deep passion for alpine sports and the breathtaking mountain landscapes. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Samivel was also a dedicated pioneer in the realm of environmental protection. His work often reflected his commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the Alps and advocating for its safeguarding.
